This webinar, part of CPE’s European Week Against Cancer 2024 series organized with EFPIA Oncology Platform support, examines cancer prevention and early diagnosis inequalities across EU Member States. Expert panelists including MEPs, public health officials, oncologists, and patient advocates discuss evidence from IHE and OECD reports on disparities in cancer prevention programs, screening uptake rates, and early detection infrastructure. Key topics include vaccination coverage gaps (HPV, hepatitis B), tobacco control policy implementation variations, screening program availability and quality differences across Member States (breast, cervical, colorectal, lung), barriers to screening participation, and the role of primary care in early cancer detection. The session concludes with concrete policy recommendations for the incoming EU mandate: integration of cancer prevention indicators into EU health governance frameworks, harmonized screening quality standards, funding mechanisms to reduce access gaps, and targeted campaigns to improve screening uptake in underserved populations.
