On 15 June 2026, our Research and Patient Engagement Director, Juan-José Ventura, led Seminar 7: Patient Engagement in Research — An Introduction for Clinicians & Researchers, part of the DIGICORE seminar series and co-organised with CPE. The session offered clinicians and researchers practical training on how to communicate with — and meaningfully involve — cancer patients throughout the research process. Rather than treating patient engagement as a box-ticking exercise, it focused on how genuine collaboration can be built into research projects from the start.

What the seminar covered
The training explored why patient engagement matters in research and the different levels at which patients can be involved, from being informed and consulted to acting as genuine partners in shaping a project. It also looked at the role of patient representatives in influencing European cancer policy, and at practical approaches to improve communication, dissemination and feedback between researchers, clinicians and patients.
Why it matters
When patients are meaningfully involved, research is better aligned with the needs and priorities of the people it is meant to serve. By strengthening collaboration between researchers, clinicians and patients, the seminar supports more patient-centred — and ultimately more impactful — cancer research. Because research that involves patients delivers better outcomes for patients.
CPE’s Commitment
At CPE, we remain committed to ensuring that the patient voice is embedded at every stage of cancer research — because meaningful patient involvement is not an add-on, but the foundation of research that truly serves patients.
