At Cancer Patients Europe our vision is to reduce the burden of cancer on patients and survivors, their carers, the healthcare system and society as a whole. We achieve this by giving patients voice in policies that drive prevention, high quality cancer care, treatment and survivorship in Europe.
Our policy work includes anticipating, providing advice and contributing to the formulation of relevant legislative proposals taking place at the European level. Our activities on policy include the publication of Calls to Action, position papers, input on consultations by the European Commission, the European Medicines Agency and direct engagement with policymakers.

Health Technology Assessment
Cancer Patients Europe (CPE) promotes patient engagement in the implementation of the new EU Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Regulation, effective from January 2025. By ensuring transparent and inclusive assessment processes, CPE works to reduce disparities in access to innovative cancer treatments and to make patients’ perspectives central to EU healthcare decision-making.
European Health Data Space
CPE advocates for a European Health Data Space that truly benefits patients — ensuring secure, transparent, and fair use of health data across the EU. By promoting a patient-centred approach, CPE contributes to policies that enhance data accessibility, improve cancer care delivery, and support innovation in European health systems.
Pharmaceutical Strategy
CPE contributes to shaping the EU Pharmaceutical Strategy to guarantee timely, equitable, and affordable access to medicines for all cancer patients. By defending a broad and flexible definition of Unmet Medical Needs, CPE helps safeguard innovation, reduce healthcare inequalities, and strengthen Europe’s commitment to sustainable and patient-centred pharmaceutical policy.
EU Cross border clinical trials
CPE advocates for a European framework that ensures equal access to cross-border clinical trials for all cancer patients, regardless of where they live. By working with partners across Europe, CPE aims to remove barriers, promote equity, and facilitate participation in innovative cancer research that can improve survival and quality of life.
Access to prescription medicines online
CPE supports the expansion of online prescription and home delivery services to improve access to essential medicines for all European patients. By promoting digital health solutions and equity across Member States, CPE works to ensure convenience, safety, and better adherence for patients managing cancer and chronic conditions.
