In the 2022 State of the European Union address, European Commission President von den Leyen announced a new European Mental Health Strategy. As a result of this announcement, the European Commission has begun to develop a programme of work.
The preliminary strategy, including draft work streams have been published, and a call for response and evidence has been launched. The European Association of Urology has responded to this important strategic consultation.
CPE endors the statement by EAU, World Federation for Incontinence and Pelvic Problems (WFIPP) and International Continence Society.
“We welcome the Commission’s ambition to develop a Mental Health Strategy for Europe. In order to take a comprehensive approach, we believe the European Commission should:
- include in its workstream on ‘cross-cutting themes’, a specific mention to mental health and related co-morbidities, including incontinence.
- Include a separate workstream on translational clinical research, which could include understanding the links to urinary incontinence”.
