CPE at the EAEP General Assembly 2025: Championing Digital Health and Access to Medicines

On 10 April 2025, CPE took part in the General Assembly of the European Alliance for Ethical and Sustainable Access to Medicines (EAEP), held in Brussels. The stakeholders from across Europe discussed how to ensure sustainable, equitable, and ethical access to medicines in an increasingly digital and interconnected health environment.

The theme of this year’s Assembly, “Empowering People and Health Systems – Towards Sustainable Access to Medicines in a Digital Europe,” focused on the dual challenge of digital transformation and resilience in the pharmaceutical supply chain.

Representing CPE, the Policy Officer Joséphine Mosset spoke during the session on “The Future of Medicines Access in the EU – the Role of ePharmacy” to explore how digital tools such as ePharmacy models can support better, more equitable access to treatments across the EU.

In her intervention, Joséphine underlined that digital innovation must be rooted in the real needs of patients, especially those facing chronic or life-threatening conditions like cancer. She highlighted that access to medicines remains unequal across Member States and regions, with rural and underserved communities particularly affected.

    Key points highlighted:

    • A harmonised EU framework for safe and equitable online access to prescription medicines.
    • Improved digital infrastructure to monitor and manage medicine shortages in real time.
    • Better use of health data to personalise cancer care and improve treatment continuity.

From the cancer patient perspective, digital tools like ePharmacy can be powerful enablers if they are developed with inclusivity, transparency, and patient engagement at their core.
